NBA Teams To Look Forward To Ahead of 2026/2027 Season

The Knicks title has caused a shift in mentality around the league and teams are now making trades that fans wouldn't have expected just to get a title shot this coming season

The confetti had hardly settled on the Knicks’ championship run before the league turned its roster on its head.

This offseason has been one of the craziest we’ve seen in a long time with franchises changing their whole rosters almost overnight and a few teams are heading into training camp looking scarier than anyone thought they would just a few months ago.

Philadelphia’s Blockbuster Gamble

The Sixers pulled off the biggest bombshell of the offseason, sending Paul George to Boston for Jaylen Brown, who is coming off arguably the best season of his career.

They lost some rotation pieces along the way, but they filled those gaps smartly, getting defensive stopper Dean Wade and sharpshooter Anfernee Simons.

And then add in the lingering possibility of LeBron James joining the mix, and Philadelphia has gone from play-in hopeful to legitimate championship contender in one summer.

Miami Gets a Winner

Miami made its own splash, acquiring two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and instantly giving the Heat one of the most fearsome frontcourts in basketball.

Combine that kind of two-way force with Miami’s culture and coaching staff and this is a team that could be very difficult to deal with come playoff time.

San Antonio Sticks With The Plan

San Antonio didn’t have to blow things up.

The Spurs are running it back with a starting five that already had a scorching plus-18.5 point differential per 100 possessions last season.

And with Victor Wembanyama locked in for a max extension and the same five returning, it’s a run-it-back situation. Adding in Tobias Harris quietly for spacing and shot-making only sweetens the pot.

The Domino Effect

Then there’s the wave of star movement rippling everywhere else: Ja Morant going to Portland, LaMelo Ball landing in Minnesota, Norman Powell joining Chicago.

Each of those moves shuffles the competitive deck in ways we won’t fully understand until the games actually tip off.

But one thing is clear. This is not a league where the same handful of teams get to cruise on into next season.

The contenders also rebuilding, the lesser teams have gone shopping and by the time opening night rolls around, the NBA's pecking order could look almost unrecognizable from where it stood in June.
