5 NBA Stars Under Pressure to Deliver in the 2026-27 Season
The NBA landscape has completely changed this offseason with blockbuster moves changing the balance of power throughout the league. These are 5 stars that must deliver this coming season
The NBA landscape has completely changed this offseason with blockbuster moves changing the balance of power throughout the league.
A handful of superstars will head into the 2026-27 season facing heavy pressure to turn their own individual brilliance and loaded rosters into postseason success.
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo, who played all of his career with the Milwaukee Bucks, now starts a new chapter with the Miami Heat.
The two-time MVP came to the team with Bobby Portis in a blockbuster trade that sent Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakučionis, the No. 13 pick and future draft assets to Milwaukee.
Bringing Giannis alongside Bam Adebayo in Miami will immediately elevate expectations.
The Heat have made their intentions clear, and anything less than a serious championship push could make this experiment a failure.
Luka Doncic
Luka Dončić begins another season as the face of the Los Angeles Lakers after the departure of LeBron James.
The Lakers have added Walker Kessler, Collin Sexton, Quentin Grimes and other pieces, but the burden of carrying the franchise deep into the playoffs is now squarely on Dončić shoulders.
With LeBron gone, there’s no second superstar to help carry the load. Doncic has to show he can be the undisputed centerpiece for the Lakers’ next era and contend for the title.
Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid might have the most talented supporting cast he’s ever had. Philadelphia has Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown and LeBron James to boast about after a busy offseason.
The 76ers haven’t won a title since 1983, and haven’t reached the Eastern Conference Finals since 2001.
With LeBron joining the team at 41 for what he has called his final decision, the pressure on Embiid to finally deliver in Philadelphia has reached another level.

Jayson Tatum
The Boston Celtics have kicked off a new chapter after trading Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia for Paul George and future draft picks.
That makes Jayson Tatum the obvious face of the franchise.
The Celtics still have championship aspirations, but Tatum will be expected to prove he can carry Boston through a major roster transition and keep the team among the elite of the Eastern Conference.
Anthony Edwards
Anthony Edwards is already one of the most exciting young stars in the NBA, but the next hurdle is bringing Minnesota all the way to the top.
The Timberwolves have built around him for the future, and another disappointing postseason would increase the stakes for Edwards to prove he can deliver when the lights are the brightest.
The league no longer asks its rising star to make highlight-reel plays — it asks him to win.
