Early Life and Background

Kawhi Leonard was born in Los Angeles, California, on June 29, 1991.
He was brought up in an area where life was not a rosy one but he
would use basketball to elevate himself above everything. He was a
high school basketball player in Martin Luther King High School in
Riverside, California. Kawhi was large, tough, and a good defender,
which allowed him to immediately establish himself.

Following his high school, Kawhi joined San Diego State University. He
served two seasons with Aztecs. He was also credited with being a good defender and a consistent scorer during his college days. His
development and performance saw him become a leading NBA draft
prospect.

NBA Draft and the Spurs Era

Kawhi was picked in the 2011 NBA Draft, number 15 by the Indiana
Pacers, but he was traded on the spot to the San Antonio Spurs.

Kawhi was trained by one of the finest coaches in the history of the
NBA, Gregg Popovich. In San Antonio, Kawhi grew up as a young player
to a superstar. He was a player who was reputed due to his work ethic,
calming nature during pressure and his skill of defending the best
players.

Kawhi is a 2015 NBA Defensive player of the year. This award
demonstrated that he was not only an excellent defender, but he was

In 2018, Kawhi was traded to the Toronto Raptors. There were a lot of
fans and analysts who questioned whether Toronto could succeed in
